Lim’s The Navigator goes to Moscow
As part of the 8th Anton Chekhov International Theatre Festival, Moscow’s Fomenko Theatre is to host the European premiere of The Navigator by the Australian composer Liza Lim.
The performances are scheduled for 25th- 27th June 2009.
The world premiere of the opera took place last July at the Brisbane Festival in Australia. In the libretto by Patricia Sykes the extremes of passion are explored with reference to Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde, the epic poetry of the Mahabharata and Greek mythology, with the protagonists – sung by Andrew Watts, Talise Trevigne, Omar Ebrahim, Philip Larson and Deborah Kayser - having to negotiate war, gambles and broken dreams. The ELISION Ensemble will be conducted by Manuel Nawri, with stage direction by Barrie Kosky.
