Music Theatre premiere for Jonathan Cole
Currently composer in residence at the London Contemporary Orchestra (LCO), Jonathan Cole has composed a new music theatre piece, burburbabbar za, which will have its world premiere on 27 June at Village Underground, Hoxton, London.
Cole explains: "the title of the composition derives from the ancient Sumerian language, which goes back four thousand years before Christ, and can be translated something along the lines of “make noise”. It is hard to call this work “an opera” – there’s neither story, nor are there any words – but there are three singers and six instruments each one of which has a fundamental role in the development of the drama. I’m convinced that it is possible to have an intense drama without narration… I would like the public to perceive this piece as an apparition from ancient times that emerges and dissolves before their eyes and ears.”
burburbabbar za music theatre for three voices, string trio and two percussionists duration: 35’
